A terrorist attack on the Lakhanai border checkpost in Dera Ghazi Khan was successfully repelled by security forces late last night.
According to police reports, a group of 20 to 25 militants launched an assault on the post but faced strong retaliation.
As a result of the counter-operation, three terrorists were killed, while several others sustained injuries. The remaining attackers fled the scene, leaving behind their weapons and equipment.
Following the attack, Punjab Police, along with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other security agencies, launched a comprehensive search operation early this morning, cordoning off the entire area.
During the search, body parts of three more militants were recovered from different locations. Police also discovered large amounts of blood at various escape routes, indicating heavy casualties among the attackers.
Police officials stated that commandos used advanced weaponry to target the terrorists with precision.
The militants were forced to flee, abandoning their belongings, including footwear and other equipment.
Punjab Inspector General (IG) reaffirmed that the province's security forces remain on high alert, vowing that extremist militants will not be allowed to infiltrate Punjab. He emphasized that stringent measures are in place to counter any future threats.
The search operation is still underway to track down any remaining militants in the area.
