As the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League launched with fanfare in Rawalpindi, a social media storm followed what many believed was an unexpected artistic misstep.
In a post that quickly gained attention, Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen questioned whether Sufi icon Abida Parveen had lip-synced during her performance at the opening ceremony.
“Are they making Abida Parveen lipsync? Please no 🙏🏼,” he wrote on X. His concerns were echoed by hundreds of followers who expressed disappointment, calling the move “unnecessary” and “disrespectful.”
Tareen later remarked, “The lip syncing was bad enough…” hinting that other acts may have also mimed their performances.
The ceremony featured musical acts from Parveen, Ali Zafar, Natasha Baig, and Young Stunners, accompanied by fireworks and high production visuals. While the show was well-received by many, the authenticity of the live music element has come under scrutiny.
PSL 10 matches are being played across four venues—Lahore (13 matches), Rawalpindi (11), and five each in Multan and Karachi. The final will be played on May 18 in Lahore.
