A nefarious plan by miscreants to disrupt peace in Azad Kashmir has been exposed, revealed by Azad Kashmir’s Interior Minister Waqar Noor and Inspector General Rana Abdul Jabbar during a joint press conference.
According to Minister Waqar Noor, certain elements are operating under the guise of advocating rights but are in fact pursuing sinister agendas. He said that the investigation began after a tragic incident on October 27, 2024, at the Shujaabad checkpoint, where Constable Sajjad Resham was martyred in a targeted firing attack.
The investigation identified several suspects, including Zarnosh Naseem alias Qasim, Usama alias Muhammad, and Hanzala alias Ulfat. On March 19, 2025, a suspect named Saqib Ghani was arrested at the Azad Pattan entry point with a cache of heavy weapons. During interrogation, he confessed to having ties with Zarnosh and other subversive elements.
The interior minister added that the suspects were not only involved in Sajjad Resham's killing but also attempted to set the City Bagh police station on fire. They were also behind attacks on the Motorway Police in Islamabad and the Sangjani Toll Plaza.
Investigations further revealed that attacks were being planned on sensitive installations. One of the suspects, Usama, surrendered voluntarily after realizing the true nature of the group's objectives. On his disclosure, authorities recovered grenades and pistols.
During interrogations, the suspects confessed to planning and executing several acts of sabotage across Azad Kashmir. Their video statements have also exposed the full extent of their network. A key suspect, Ghazi Shehzad, remains at large after escaping from Rawalakot Jail. He has been confirmed to have links with hostile agencies in Afghanistan.
Waqar Noor also named Abdul Rauf, a terrorist based in Afghanistan, who, along with the notorious figure “Fitna al-Khoraj,” has been misleading vulnerable youth in the name of jihad and Sharia. Intelligence reports also suggest that India has been providing shelter, funding, and training to some of these disruptive elements.
The minister stated that concrete evidence exists linking recent disruptive incidents in Azad Kashmir to coordinated planning. Legal action is being taken against those providing support to these groups.
He emphasized that the peace in Azad Kashmir is the result of tireless efforts by the country’s security institutions. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against all forms of incitement and to support law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.
