Australian Test bowler Nathan Lyon is set to grace Lancashire with his presence for the 2024 season, as announced by the English county on Thursday.
The 36-year-old off-spinner, boasting an impressive record of 496 Test wickets, previously showcased his skills with Worcestershire in 2017, aiding them in securing promotion from Division 2.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Lyon stated, "This is an exciting opportunity for me, and I am really looking forward to heading over to England for a full season of county cricket with Lancashire." Emphasising his versatility, Lyon confirmed his availability for all formats.
Sharing his fondness for playing cricket in England, Lyon expressed a desire to continue learning and improving his game. He hopes to contribute to Lancashire's victories and impart some of the valuable experiences gained over the years.
Despite facing a calf injury at Lord's earlier in the year during the drawn Ashes series, Lyon's eagerness to join Lancashire remains undeterred. Before the injury, he had an impressive streak of 100 consecutive Test appearances for Australia.
As the third-highest wicket-taker in Australia's Test history, Lyon follows in the footsteps of legendary figures like Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.
Mark Chilton, the director of cricket performance for Lancashire, commented on Lyon's addition to the squad, stating, "Nathan is an extremely skilled and experienced operator, and once we heard that he was available for the duration of next summer, we jumped at the opportunity to add him to our squad for the 2024 season."
