Nice reclaimed the second spot in Ligue 1 with a somewhat fortuitous 2-1 victory on Sunday, courtesy of a late error by Reims goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf.
In the 82nd minute, with the score delicately poised at 1-1, Diouf, who had an otherwise stellar performance, let a speculative shot from Ivorian forward Jeremie Boga slip through his hands and trickle into the net.
Although Gaetan Laborde had initially given Nice the lead in the 55th minute, Reims captain Yunis Abdelhamid leveled the score in the 78th minute. The win propelled Nice to second place, just four points behind the league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain, who secured a 2-1 victory against Nantes on Saturday. Nice now holds a two-point advantage over Monaco, who surpassed them with a 2-1 win at Rennes, also on Saturday.
In the upcoming fixtures on Sunday, the bottom-ranked Lyon faces a crucial match against fourth-from-bottom Toulouse, while eighth-placed Marseille travels to Lorient, a team already entangled in the battle against relegation.
