The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were rocked by an earthquake early in the morning as tremors sent shockwaves, causing panic among residents.
Apart from the twin cities, the seismic activity was also felt in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, prompting an immediate response from both the citizens and the authorities.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department's National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, the tremors were felt at 5:32 in the morning and their magnitude was recorded at 4.4 on the Richter Scale.
The depth of the tremors was recorded at 11 kilometres, and their epicentre was southwest Kashmir.
On Dec 20 also, the federal capital Islamabad and its neighbouring regions experienced a sudden jolt today as earthquake tremors sent shockwaves across the landscape, causing panic among residents.
Apart from Islamabad, the seismic activity was also felt in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal, leaving citizens shaken and prompting an immediate response.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, people came out of their homes in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran. Meanwhile, no loss of life or property was reported from any part of capital due to the earthquake.
Social media platforms were quick to reflect the impact, with '#earthquake' swiftly rising to become the top trend on popular social media site X in Pakistan. Users shared their experiences, photos, and videos, creating a virtual community where people could connect and share information.
