Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Shazia Maria expressed on Thursday her concerns over the economic hardships faced by the country.
Speaking to media following the PPP CEC meeting, Ms Marri said, "The country is witnessing red-hot inflation."
In connection with the general elections, Ms Marri asserted, "Efforts have been made to create confusion with the president’s letter in line with the polls".
"In our party, there is a tradition of taking the leadership and workers on board before taking any decision. We always prioritise the supremacy of the constitution," she maintained.
She reiterated that it was up to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure transparent polls in the elections. "It was decided to hold simultaneous elections in the country," Ms Marri added.
Ms Marri urged all the stakeholders to work together for the sake of the country.
She questioned, "How could the caretaker government change the decisions made by the previous government? Why the electoral watchdog remaining silent over the matter?"
Ms Marri was of the view that the PPP should obtain a level playing field.
She stressed the need to run the country in accordance with the law and constitution.
Recalling the flash floods in the country, Ms Marri said: "The majority of the population in Sindh had been affected by the floods."
– Kundi for elections within 90 days –
PPP senior leader Faisal Karim Kundi reiterated the demand for holding the elections within 90 days.
Expressing his thoughts, Mr Kundi said, "The elections should be held on time. The PPP is ready for the polls. The PPP will win the next elections with the majority of the votes".
Mr Kundi expressed his thoughts in line with the return of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif to the country. "We welcome the announcement by Nawaz Sharif regarding his return to the country," he added.
"Nawaz went abroad for his treatment from jail."He should consult the legal experts ahead of his return to the country".
Mr Kundi was of the view that it was the right of every political leader to run the election campaign for the party.
Speaking about Latif Khosa, Mr Kundi said, "Latif Khosa was given the invitation to attend the PPP CEC meeting." He clarified that Mr Khosa was merely served with show-cause notice and was not barred from the party.
