Former Indian cricketer and current Haryana Deputy Superintendent of Police, Joginder Sharma, has been implicated in a case related to the suicide of a Hisar resident.
Known for bowling the crucial last over in the inaugural ICC T20 final in South Africa in 2007, Joginder Sharma later joined the Haryana Police as DSP.
The FIR registered by Haryana Police includes five others, identified as Ajayveer, Ishwar Prem, and Rajendra Sihag, charging them with abetment of suicide.
The case revolves around Pawan, a Hisar resident, who hanged himself on January 1 following a property dispute.
Pawan's mother, Sunita, filed a complaint with the police the next day, revealing that a property-related case was pending trial in court. She accused the six men, including Joginder Sharma, of harassing her son, which she claims led to his tragic suicide.
In protest, Pawan's family staged a demonstration with his body, demanding the arrest of the accused under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
They presented six demands to the police, including financial assistance to the family and a fair investigation into the case.
A senior police official stated that the accused has been charged with abetment of suicide, and the section related to SC/ST will be added only after a thorough investigation.
Joginder Sharma has denied any involvement in the case, stating, "I am not aware of this case. I neither know nor have ever met Pawan."
