The government on Monday announced the issuance of special permits to foreign media for the coverage of the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 28.
In the initial phase, permits were granted to 49 foreign journalists hailing from 13 different countries, as indicated in a news release.
Among the countries represented were China, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Hong Kong, Serbia, Sweden, France, Germany, Australia, Thailand, and Singapore.
The statement further revealed that a total of 136 foreign journalists have applied for permission to cover the elections set to take place on February 8.
Those journalists who have not yet received permits for coverage are assured that permission passes will be granted soon.
Additionally, delegations from the European Union and Commonwealth countries are expected to arrive to observe the election proceedings.
To facilitate this, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has printed 200,000 accreditation cards.
