Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Thursday that the bodies of 9 Pakistani laborers shot dead in Iran arrived in Pakistan last night.
The deceased labourers, hailing from the districts of Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, and Lodhran, had ventured to Iran in search of a better livelihood.
Families and friends had gathered in Multan to receive the bodies, which are set to be transported to their native towns of Alipur and Lodhran for burial.
During the briefing, the spokesperson assured the public that communication through cipher remains secure, following a recent security audit of the system.
Responding to concerns about potential strains in relations with the US due to alleged leaks in the cipher, Baloch stated that Pakistan is dedicated to improving relations with all countries.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Baloch conveyed that both Pakistan and Iran have given assurances that such attacks will not occur in the future. Iran has pledged to share the findings of the joint investigation once concluded.
Addressing speculations about India's involvement, Baloch revealed that India has presented evidence to third countries implicating Pakistan. The spokesperson stressed Pakistan's commitment to safeguarding its law and order while expressing Iran's dedication to maintaining the integrity of the region.
Providing diplomatic insights, Baloch discussed the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Pakistan on January 29, where liaison officers are set to be appointed in Turbat and Zahedan.
Additionally, caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani is participating in the third European Union Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Brussels.
Switching gears, Baloch expressed deep concern over the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, condemning the attack on Jenin Hospital. The suspension of funding for Palestinian refugees by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency was also criticised, with Pakistan calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
In a show of solidarity, the spokesperson announced the upcoming celebration of Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5, reaffirming Pakistan's unwavering support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination. Baloch concluded by urging the international community to hold India accountable for alleged violations of international law in the targeting of Pakistani citizens.
