Former president Dr Arif Alvi reacting on Sunday to allegations leveled by various political heavyweights over "breach of constitutional mandate", welcomed the possibility of facing prosecution under Article 6.
Addressing a presser at his Karachi residence, Dr Alvi reiterated his longstanding efforts towards fostering national unity, stating, "I have always endeavored to unite the country, as I firmly believe that Pakistan's progress hinges upon its unity."
He also stressed the importance of releasing the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a significant step towards achieving this goal.

Speaking about his adherence to principles in politics, the former president highlighted his stance against corruption, underscoring it as a fundamental principle that he has consistently upheld.
"I have always stayed against corruption, and I have remained committed to this principle throughout my political career," he asserted.

Responding to allegations and the possibility of facing prosecution under Article 6, Dr. Arif Alvi remained resolute, stating, "If there are allegations against me, there are courts to address them. If prosecution under Article 6 is deemed necessary, I welcome it."
"The political tension in the country must be alleviated, especially considering the decline in the economy over the past few years," Mr Alvi remarked.
Reiterating his commitment to meritocracy, Dr. Arif Alvi emphasised, "Merit has always been my priority. I have no preference other than adhering to principles."
Advised Imran Khan against dissolution of assemblies
In response to a question, he disclosed that he had advised Imran Khan against the dissolution of assemblies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
On the matter of appointing the Army Chief, Imran Khan opted to prioritise merit, as per Arif Alvi's account, adding "I and Imran Khan shared the view that sending a reference against Justice Qazi Faiz Isa was unnecessary."
Reflecting on confidentiality protocols, Arif Alvi mentioned receiving a cipher and emphasised the importance of adhering to oaths taken by the President and Prime Minister regarding the handling of classified information.
He reiterated his unwavering support for Imran Khan, asserting that the latter remains his leader.
Discussing recent elections, Arif Alvi disclosed receiving a summary to convene a meeting, where he suggested addressing specific seat allocations beforehand.
He underscored the necessity for collective efforts to improve the economic situation, cautioning against relying solely on the IMF, highlighting that mere installation of the IMF director wouldn't suffice for economic improvement.
