Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday under the directives of it's supremo Nawaz Sharif took action regarding the membership status of Maryam Ikram, the party's nominated Member of the National Assembly.
Following a barrage of public scrutiny, Maryam Ikram has been requested by the party hierarchy to voluntarily withdraw from her assembly membership.
The decision came in the wake of excessive backlash on various social media channels, highlighting concerns and grievances regarding Maryam Ikram's performance and conduct as a representative of the party.
In response, PML-N swiftly responded, acknowledging the importance of addressing public sentiment and maintaining the integrity of the party's representation.
Sources within the PML-N disclosed that a comprehensive reprimand was issued to party leaders who had recommended Maryam Ikram for the National Assembly seat.
Additionally, a special committee has been constituted to probe into the circumstances surrounding the nomination process, ensuring accountability within the party ranks.
According to the latest directives, Maryam Ikram is expected to formally inform the Election Commission of her withdrawal before March 19th, adhering to legal procedures.
Subsequently, PML-N officials have indicated that the party will promptly nominate a new candidate to fill the vacant position, reaffirming their commitment to effective representation and responsiveness to public concerns.
