The Federal Cabinet on Friday gave the green light to the appointment of Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for a three-year term.
On October 2, the Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar-led caretaker government initially appointed Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afsar as NADRA Chairman until further orders.
Following deliberations and considerations, sources within the government have revealed that the federal government has now officially endorsed his appointment for a tenure of three years.

The approval of this appointment came through the circulation of a summary from the Ministry of Interior. the Federal Cabinet, and cognizant of the need for robust governance structures, also sanctioned the inclusion of Rule Seven A in the NADRA Rules 2020.
Rule Seven A, a significant addition to the regulatory framework governing NADRA, empowers the government to appoint any serving officer as Chairman of NADRA in the national interest.
