Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Saturday that there were no shortcuts to provide relief to the masses.
Speaking to media in Mandi Bahauddin, Kaira said: "The declining economy cannot by be revived by casting a magical spell. It takes time to implement the policies. The inflation will decrease gradually."
He made it clear that there was no other option for the country than to approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF). "If we do not agree to the demands of the international lender, then things will be out of our control," the PPP leader added.
Kaira said: "We will take the United States on board in line with the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline matter."
Speaking about the incumbent government, Kaira said; "The PPP stands with the government, but the party is not part of it [the government]."
He expressed optimism that the government will complete its five-year term, saying, "The coalition governments are not weak."

Few days back, Kaira lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Expressing his thoughts, Kaira said: "The claim was made that the PTI will uphold the system of justice." The PPP stalwart lambasted former Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar.
"Usman Buzdar, who was not even familiar with the world and politics, was appointed the chief minister for making money," Kaira asserted.
He took a swipe at former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, saying, "Parvez Elahi is the biggest of all looters. However, he was appointed president when he joined the PTI."
Taking an indirect jibe at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Kaira said: "Are the people of Peshawar satisfied with the current KP ruler."
