Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said on Saturday that the government was not linked to the return of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif.
Speaking to media in Karachi, Mr Solangi said: “The PML-N supremo headed abroad with the permission of the court and the former government. It is up to his party’s approach to the courts after his return.”
He made it clear that the caretaker government had not come to power for the sake of accountability. “Nawaz Sharif will be treated according to the constitution on his return,” Mr Solangi added.
Speaking about the general elections, Mr Solangi said, “The election date will be announced soon.”
It is up to ECP to announce election date
Mr Solangi said on Friday that it was up to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the final date of the general elections.
Expressing his thoughts, Mr Solangi said, “The interim government is constitutional. It is not up to the interim government to announce the election date.”
“Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is the head of the country’s biggest party. It is his right to complain as he is the head of the biggest political party.”
“It has been said that few of the cabinet members belong to any specific party. Fawad Hasan Fawad had served as a public servant for 35 years.” Mr Solangi added.
