In light of the recent weather forecast by the Meteorological Department, Deputy Mayor Karachi, Salman Abdullah Murad, has declared a rain emergency in Baldia Uzma.
The decision comes as a precautionary measure to tackle the anticipated heavy rains in the city. Consequently, all staff vacations have been canceled, and relevant institutions have been instructed to take immediate action.
During his visit to various areas of Karachi following the initial showers on Thursday, Salman Abdullah Murad emphasized that the Solid Waste Management Board, along with the staff of Baldia Uzma Karachi, are on high alert.
The deputy mayor assured that necessary measures are in place, including the cancellation of holidays for the concerned departments.
Furthermore, Murad directed the Water Corporation to deploy machinery at key underpasses and highways across the city to prevent waterlogging. His inspection tour included areas such as Malir, Kala Board, Model Colony, Airport, Metropole, Sharia Faisal, Nursery, and Karsaz, where he reviewed the rainwater drainage efforts undertaken by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and town administrations.
Addressing the media, the Deputy Mayor expressed satisfaction with the current situation, noting that there is no standing rainwater in any part of the city or on main highways. He praised the active and alert response of the KMC and District Municipal Corporations (DMC) staff.
Murad also appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration during and after the rains. He urged citizens to avoid electric poles and trees during strong winds and heavy rainfall to ensure their safety.
