The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a forecast warning of heavy rains and potential floods in various regions of Pakistan.
The alert highlights the need for vigilance and precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property.
The NDMA has specified that the northeastern parts of Punjab, Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Sindh, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to experience significant rainfall. These rains could lead to urban flooding and an increase in river water levels, especially if India releases water from its dams.
The forecast includes a warning of possible flood situations in urban areas, with a notable increase in water flow in rivers. The NDMA has also cautioned against the risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir due to continuous rainfall. These landslides could pose severe hazards to both residents and travellers in these regions.
