Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed on Thursday his resolve to enhance cooperation with Azerbaijan across multiple sectors.
Expressing his thoughts, the premier said: "The trade volume between Pakistan and Azerbaijan amounts to $100 million." He underlined the importance of strengthening ties and mutual trust and respect that underpin the relationship between the two nations.
"The Pakistani people are delighted with the visit of the Azerbaijani president. We warmly welcome him to the country," he said.
Meanwhile, both the countries signed several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at fostering cooperation in various fields. These include agreements on law and justice, privatisation of public property, trade, oil, foreign affairs, and the defence industry.
The federal minister of privatisation signed the MoUs on behalf of Pakistan.
Earlier today, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for a two-day official visit from July 11-12 on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
President Aliyev was warmly received by PM Shehbaz and his cabinet members at the airport, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar.
A 21-gun salute was heard in the background to announce the arrival of the dignitary. Two children, dressed in traditional dresses, presented bouquets to him on his arrival.
