Former interior minister Gohar Ejaz on Friday called for increasing employment opportunities.
Expressing his thoughts, Ejaz said: "We had given subsidies worth billions of rupees during our tenure. The industries are not being run due to the costly electricity."
Ejaz urged the business community to take up the responsibilities with honesty.
Ejaz acknowledged the role of the business community, saying: "The country cannot lead to prosperity without the role of the business community."
Few days back, Ejaz underscored the importance of reviewing the agreements with the independent power producers (IPP) in a bid to steer the country towards the prosperity.
Taking to X, Ejaz said: "We are aware of the capacity payments going to the IPP sector. Coal plants are operating below 25 percent capacity yet receiving over Rs692 billion as full capacity charges. Wind operations are below 50 percent but getting Rs175 billion with exorbitant per unit charges."
"RLNG-based gas power plants are operating below 50 percent and receiving Rs180 billion per year, while solar operations get Rs110 billion with high per unit rates," he said.
