Gilgit-Baltistan recently hosted the largest polo event in the northern areas, the Jashn-e-Pakistan Polo Tournament. The ten-day competition, organized by the Force Commander Northern Area, took place at the Wahab Shaheed Polo Ground in Gilgit.
Fifteen teams participated in the tournament, including first-time entrants from Chitral. Previously, Gilgit-Baltistan teams primarily competed at the high-altitude Shandur field. The NLI team emerged victorious in the final match against GB Scouts A, witnessed by a packed stadium of over 40,000 spectators, with a notable presence of women in the audience.
All matches were played under artificial lighting, providing an enhanced experience for attendees. The tournament's closing ceremony was graced by the Force Commander FC NA and CM GB as chief guests.
Local residents expressed enthusiasm for the event, praising the Pakistan Army for allocating dedicated spaces for women and children to enjoy the matches. The tournament not only showcased the region's rich polo tradition but also provided a platform for community engagement and cultural celebration.
