Google has introduced the Google Pixel Watch 2 as the successor to its original smartwatch. The new watch features a Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset, an upgrade from the previous Exynos 9110. It still maintains 2GB of RAM.
The Pixel Watch 2 has a 306mAh battery, slightly larger than the previous model's 294mAh.
Google claims it offers a 24-hour battery life even with Always On Display active, and it can be charged quickly, providing 12 hours of use with just 30 minutes of charging.
The physical design of the watch remains similar to its predecessor, with a 41mm size and durable cover glass. The watch also uses 100% recycled aluminum.
The display is a circular 1.2" OLED screen with a resolution of 384 x 384 pixels, which is slightly lower than the original model's 450 x 450 pixels.
The watch includes various watch face options categorized as Accessible, Arc, Gold Digital, and Analog Bold. These cater to different preferences in terms of legibility and information density.
Health tracking features include optical heart rate and blood-oxygen sensors. The new multi-path sensor is claimed to be 40% more accurate during vigorous exercise.
The watch also monitors stress levels with the Continuous Electrodermal Activity sensor and provides detailed sleep quality analysis, including skin temperature measurements.
Notably, the Pixel Watch 2 does not offer an ECG feature like some competitors.
The watch comes with a 6-month Fitbit Premium subscription that uses AI to analyze performance and offer insights based on collected data. It also includes coaching features for maintaining target heart rates during workouts.
The watch is rated 5ATM/IP68, making it dust-tight and suitable for swimming in pools.
New features include Emergency Sharing, allowing users to share their location with trusted contacts, and a Safety Check function that triggers Emergency Sharing if a timer expires.
The watch offers customization options with interchangeable wrist straps, including the Active Sport Band, the Woven Band, and a steel link bracelet. Existing bands from the original Pixel Watch can also be used.
The Google Pixel Watch 2 is available starting at $350 for the Bluetooth model, with an LTE option priced at $400.
