Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman called for the immediate resignation of the government and demanded fresh snap elections, asserting that the current administration did not represent the people’s mandate.
Speaking to media on Tuesday after attending a dinner hosted by former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Fazlur Rehman alleged electoral malpractice in the recent general elections. “The February 8 elections were rigged. This is not the mandate of the people,” he stated.
He asserted: "A government of choice had been installed in the country."
Rehman insisted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should step down if it was truly independent. “If the ECP is autonomous and sovereign, it should resign immediately so that a new commission can be formed,” he asserted.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser, expressed gratitude to all political leaders for attending the dinner.
“I am grateful to the entire leadership for their participation,” Qaiser said.
He voiced concern over the prevailing political situation, stating, “The current circumstances in the country are worrisome, and there must be supremacy of the constitution at this time.”
Former prime minister and Awam Pakistan Party (APP) convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi presented a declaration following a meeting of opposition parties.
The leaders deliberated on the nation’s political and security conditions, concluding that the current government lacked public representation.
The declaration further called for the release of political prisoners and the abolition of controversial laws such as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). “We will continue the consultation process,” Abbasi maintained.
