Supreme Court Puisne Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah emphasized the need for an independent and strong judiciary to tackle climate change while addressing the Breath Pakistan Conference.
He stressed the importance of establishing Climate Courts and working towards Climate Justice, warning that Hindu Kush and Himalayan glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, which could lead to severe water shortages in Pakistan.
Justice Shah highlighted that judicial independence is gradually eroding, making it crucial to protect the judiciary’s role in enforcing climate accountability and ensuring environmental justice.
"The judiciary plays a key role in implementing climate justice," he said, urging for a robust climate accountability system to address environmental challenges effectively.
