Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) collectively inflicted harm upon democracy through the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) amendments.
Speaking to the media at Adiala jail, Qureshi remarked that he had only heard about the letter written by the PTI founder to the army chief but had not seen it. "The intent should be taken into account. If the intention is to resolve matters, it must be viewed positively," he said.
The vice chairman asserted that the PTI founder sought resolution and had outlined reasons and proposals in the letter. He emphasised that the document should be seen in a constructive light, as it pertained to the country’s issues.
Qureshi stressed the need to eliminate hatred and bridge divisions, calling for a national agenda. He underscored the necessity of a grand national agreement, urging all parties to reach a consensus on an independent and sovereign election commission.
He accused the PML-N and the PPP of conspiring against democracy, alleging that both parties, through amendments in PECA, had strangled the right to freedom of expression in the country.
