Medico-legal officer Dr Muntazir Mehdi was arrested on Wednesday by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Mirpurkhas in a significant development in the case of the extrajudicial killing of Dr Shahnawaz Kumbhar.
According to details, Dr Mehdi stood accused of concealing evidence of torture in the post-mortem report of the deceased. The arrested suspect was taken into custody in Mirpurkhas after the authorities established that he had allegedly hidden signs of violence in the official autopsy findings.
The arrest marked a key moment in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Dr Shahnawaz, a case that has attracted significant attention due to the involvement of police officers in the alleged crime.
An official spokesperson for the FIA stated, "Investigations are continuing into the involvement of police officers in the killing of Dr. Shahnawaz." They further confirmed that a case under the charges of murder, terrorism and custodial torture had been filed against the accused and other suspects.
The FIA spokesperson also mentioned that more arrests were expected in the near future as the investigation progressed.
