The Ministry of Interior, acting on its orders, has sealed the office of Pattan, a non-governmental organisation that had been monitoring elections.
According to sources from the ministry, the Pattan was dissolved in June 2019, a decision that was not challenged in any forum. However, the organisation continued its activities even after dissolution, prompting authorities to take action.
Authorities revealed that the police and district administration sealed the office in accordance with an order from the industrial development officer.
Under the law, it is illegal for organisations that have been dissolved to continue their operations, which led to the enforcement of the ministry's directive.
The stance of any official from the Pattan had not been made public yet.
Legal experts had stated that if the organisation disagrees with the sealing of its office, it has the right to approach the court for redress.
