The National Highway Authority (NHA) of Pakistan has successfully reopened the strategic Karakoram Highway after landslides blocked sections of the critical route. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan expressed satisfaction with the swift restoration efforts.
The clearing operation was conducted in extremely challenging weather conditions, using heavy machinery to remove debris and stabilize the affected areas. Officials have released photographs and video footage documenting the restoration process.
According to an NHA spokesperson, the operation involved coordinated efforts between the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), NHA teams, and local administration. Despite the challenging circumstances, traffic flow was restored late night, minimizing disruption to this vital transportation artery.
The NHA Chairman provided moment-by-moment updates to the Federal Minister for Communications and senior officials throughout the operation, ensuring transparency and accountability during the emergency response.
Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan commended the timely restoration of the highway. Travellers who had been stranded due to the landslides also praised the rapid emergency response that allowed them to continue their journeys.
The spokesperson stated that rehabilitation activities continue in the surrounding areas affected by the landslides, but traffic has been successfully restored with minimal delay. Aleem Khan has directed NHA officials to remain alert across all highways, particularly in mountainous regions, to respond quickly to any weather-related emergencies.
