The tragic terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express claimed the lives of 26 people, including 18 personnel from the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC), three railway and government employees, and five civilians.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, security forces responded swiftly, preventing the terrorists from taking hostages to their hideouts. A total of 354 passengers were successfully rescued, out of which 37 sustained injuries.
The DG further said that five FC personnel were martyred during the rescue and security operation. Three soldiers lost their lives when their post was attacked, while another FC soldier attained martyrdom on the morning of March 12. Additionally, one FC official on duty inside the train also embraced martyrdom.

Lt Gen Chaudhry also stressed that there were more deaths during the operation besides the ones he mentioned, but they did not have any connection with the train.
Security forces had been closely monitoring the train’s movement from the beginning and ensured that terrorists could not take any passengers to their hideouts inside the mountains. The successful operation prevented further escalation and neutralized the threat.
