After enjoying a weekend of respite from heavily polluted air, Lahore is once again back on the list of the cities with the worst air quality in the world.
The city saw itself on the second spot, with New Delhi ahead of it, on the list of the most polluted cities in the world with an average AQI of around 400 in many of its areas.
Upper Mall on Canal Road had the worst air quality on Tuesday morning with an AQI of 444, followed by Gulberg 430, Ghazi Road with 407, and Garden Town 400.
The health department has advised citizens to take precautions when they step outside their houses.
Early on Tuesday morning, the city was engulfed with clouds of light smog and fog, due to which a section of the motorway was closed.
According to a spokesperson, the Lahore-Sheikhupura section of M2 motorway as well as the Peshawar-Swabi section were closed in the morning due to fog and smog.
Last week, the Punjab government had announced a four-day smart lockdown in eight districts to curb air pollution and the rise of smog. However, the decision was withdrawn when it rained on Friday.
