In response to the escalating number of COVID-19 cases worldwide, the Punjab Government on Thursday took proactive measures by initiating widespread testing across the province.
The decision comes as a precautionary move to identify and curb potential outbreaks in various parts of the region.
The Secretary of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has issued directives to the Chief Executive Officers of District Health Authorities (DHAs), as well as the heads of District Headquarter (DHQ) and Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) hospitals. Their mandate is to ensure the comprehensive screening of all suspected cases reported within their respective jurisdictions.
In an official communication, the Secretary emphasised the critical role that COVID-19 testing plays in assessing the extent of the disease and preventing its transmission.
The letter, addressed to the CEOs of DHAs and Medical Superintendents of DHQ/THQ hospitals, underscored that testing is the primary tool in gauging the magnitude of the pandemic.
"A surge in COVID-19 cases is once again being reported in various parts of the world. COVID testing is the only tool to assess the magnitude of the disease and curtail its transmission," the letter read.
