With Pakistan's February 8 general elections drawing closer, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) alliance have finally hammered out a seat adjustment agreement.
After intense negotiations, the two political forces have mapped out their electoral battlegrounds, aiming to maximize their collective impact on the polls.
Sources close to the negotiations reveal that IPP, led by Jahangir Tareen, had initially set their sights on a sizeable chunk of seats. Their wish list reportedly included 13 National Assembly seats and 22 Provincial Assembly seats, which they hoped to secure from the PML-N’s allotment.
Reports suggest that Jahangir Tareen, a prominent figure, will vie for NA-149 Multan and NA-155 Lodhran constituencies. However, adjustments indicate Tareen’s potential contest from NA-149 Multan, shifting away from Lodhran. Furthermore, Abdul Aleem Khan is anticipated to contend in NA-117, while Aun Chaudhry is positioned for NA-128.
These placements ensure IPP representation across diverse constituencies, potentially boosting their overall electoral prospects.
This development comes after the conclusion of negotiations between the IPP and the PML-N, where an initial agreement for seat adjustment in Jahangir Tareen’s Lodhran constituency had been reached. The finalization of these arrangements sets the stage for a strategic collaboration between the IPP and the PML-G in the upcoming elections.
This seat adjustment agreement marks a significant development in the run-up to the February elections. By joining forces, IPP and the PML-N hope to present a united front and challenge the dominance of existing political players. With a carefully calibrated distribution of seats and key figures strategically positioned, the alliance aims to make a noticeable impact on the upcoming polls.
