Following the resignation of Umar Hamid, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the appointment of Dr. Syed Asif Hussain as the new Secretary on a one-year contract.
Dr. Asif Hussain, a Grade 22 retired officer, was serving as the Special Secretary of the Election Commission prior to this assignment, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role.
In a parallel move, Ijaz Noor Chohan has been named the new Provincial Election Commissioner for Punjab, succeeding Saeed Gul. Notably, Ijaz Noor Chohan previously held the position of Provincial Election Commissioner for Balochistan.
Consequently, Saeed Gul, the outgoing Provincial Election Commissioner for Punjab, has been assigned the role of Director General at the Election Cell in Islamabad. Simultaneously, Muhammad Farid Afridi, the Additional Director General of Election Islamabad, will now serve as the Provincial Election Commissioner for Balochistan.
These appointments come as part of the Election Commission's strategic reshuffling ahead of the general elections scheduled for February 8.
