Many Pakistani celebrities, from Zara Noor to Asim Azhar, have openly discussed facing body-shaming. This unfortunate practice of passing judgmental comments on someone's weight or appearance is prevalent, particularly in online spaces.
Trolls, often empowered by distance and anonymity, frequently target celebrities who are expected to ignore and move on.
The latest victim of such body shaming is Pakistani actor-model Minal Khan. Despite the joy of welcoming her first child with actor Ahsan Mohsin Ikram in November 2023, Minal has faced harsh criticism for her post-partum weight in her recent Instagram pictures.
At a time meant for recovery and understanding, Minal's experience with body-shaming reflects a highly insensitive attitude toward her journey into motherhood. While some celebrities choose to ignore online negativity, Minal found strong support from fellow actor Nausheen Shah.
Nausheen took to Instagram comments under Minal's post with a candid note, standing up against trolls and haters. "You look so beautiful," Nausheen began. "Please take your time and enjoy your life."
Addressing the distasteful comments, she continued, "Guys, she just gave birth to a baby, leave her alone, please."
Nausheen questioned the blatant disregard for each other's emotions and highlighted the insensitivity.
"Since when have we become this insensitive and pathetic? Only God knows what a woman goes through in her 9 months of pregnancy. It really hurts when people say mean things, it really does," she insisted.
Specifically calling out women who were berating Minal, Nausheen stressed the need for sisterhood.
She commented, "When will we start seeing more women support each other? People have no fear of God left in them. Stop body-shaming a mother…becoming one is not a joke, I'm sure many women will agree with me."
