In another change of criteria, sources have reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will announce the national squad for the upcoming World Cup after reviewing the team's recent performance.
The PCB is under pressure to select a balanced and strong unit for the World Cup which will be held in India from October 5 to November 19.
Pakistan is one of the favourites to win the tournament, but they will need to be at their best to beat the other top teams.
It was only yesterday that the unit had been finalized after consultation with the captain, head coach, and selection committee. Sources revealed that the captain and the selection committee had agreed not to make many changes to the Asia Cup unit.
However, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed was likely to be added to the 15-member squad given the conditions in India.
Meanwhile, the cricket board has not yet announced the names of the players who will be under review, but it is expected that the selectors will be looking closely at recent performances of batters, bowlers, and all-rounders.
Sources said the PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf intends to consult with former captains and cricketers before final approval of the national squad.
The review of the national team's performance is likely to be completed in the next two to three days, sources added and the final squad is expected to be announced next week on Tuesday or Wednesday.
