A recent report by the auditor general for the fiscal year 2021-22 has revealed significant irregularities and embezzlement of funds in various construction projects within the Punjab Police, raising concerns over financial mismanagement and corruption.
The report revealed staggering figures, indicating the misappropriation of funds worth millions of rupees in the construction of new buildings and other expenses.
The report highlighted illegal commercial use amounting to Rs2.6 million in the chief police officer's (CPO) office, alongside Rs1.2 million reportedly misused in new construction projects.
Furthermore, the report pointed out a Rs50 million embezzlement in the repair of government vehicles, with contracts allegedly awarded to blacklisted companies.
Additionally, discrepancies were noted in the procurement of lime worth Rs12.7 million and the missing GST receipts totalling Rs11.2 million, raising further concerns about financial accountability.
However, in response to these revelations, a spokesperson for the CPO denied any corruption allegations, stating that the objections raised by audit paragraph have been addressed.
