Pakistan on Thursday launched the PakSat MM1 communication satellite —a joint venture between SPARCO and the Chinese Aerospace Industry —from the China's Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
Acting Chairman of SPARCO Zafar Iqbal said this is the second communication satellite after the first one was launched in 2011. The MM1 satellite was launched into Earth's orbit at 5:15 PM.
The satellite was developed according to the communication requirements of the country.
“The importance of space is increasing. iCube Qamar was launched in the same month, 2 days ago we celebrated Takbeer Day. It is hoped that the observation satellite will be launched later this year,” Zafar Iqbal said.
Satellite benefits
The satellite will ensure high-speed internet coverage across Pakistan and give innovation to Pakistan's communication system and communication links.
“E-commerce will be improved while also helping to increase telemedicine and e-governance,” he said.
Pakistan Space Based Augmentation payload is also on the MM1 satellite. Reliable positioning navigation transboundary facilities can be provided.
