In another blow to ousted prime minister Imran Khan, his close aide and former special assistant Usman Dar on Wednesday announced to quit the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and politics.
In an interview to a private TV channel, Usman Dar said, “Imran Khan presided over a meeting where the planning and implementation of the events of May 9 took place, and he endorsed an anti-state narrative.”
Dar directly blamed Imran Khan for the current situation the PTI was in.
He further said, “The purpose of May 9 events was to pressurise the army chief to resign," adding that Imran Khan could have been receiving instructions from someone within the armed forces.
The former SAPM went on to say that the planning for targeting sensitive installations was done in a meeting chaired by Imran Khan, adding, “I now feel 'unfit' in the PTI, so I announce my resignation from the party and have decided to quit politics as well."
During that meeting, he said, instructions were passed on that sensitive installations should be attacked if the PTI chairman was arrested.
He further revealed that the party’s October 2022 long march was meant to stop the appointment of General Asim Munir as the army chief.
He said PTI leaders Murad Saeed, Hammad Azhar, Farrukh Habib and Azam Swati were the anti-army group within the party and wanted a clash. This particular group enjoyed a very close association with Imran Khan, he added.
Dar emphasized that May 9 was merely a date, and the conspiracy against the military had been brewing for a long period.
During the meeting chaired by Imran Khan, it was even suggested that they should be prepared to resort to attacking state institutions to exert pressure if necessary. In order to prevent the arrest of Imran Khan, the party workers were brainwashed, and people were brought in from all over the country.
After the attacks on military institutions, the foundations of the PTI were shaken.
On Tuesday, the Sindh High Court had ordered the police to lodge a missing case for Usman Dar and ordered to produce him on October 18.
Barrister Ali Tahir had earlier told the bench that the court had ordered the police in a previous hearing to file the missing case.
The bench expressed its resentment and asked the police why the case was not registered yet. “The applicant didn’t approach the police,” the SHO concerned told the court.
