The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has submitted a dossier to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission currently visiting Pakistan, raising concerns over governance issues, human rights violations, and alleged electoral rigging in the 2024 general elections.
According to details, the dossier, along with a letter, has been handed over to Mahir Binci, the IMF’s representative in Pakistan, at the fund’s Islamabad office. The submission includes a report from the NGO Pattan about the electoral process and alleged discrepancies in the results.
Issues highlighted in PTI’s dossier
- The letter underscores governance shortcomings, transparency issues, issues related to the rule of law, and the alleged erosion of democratic values.
- The PTI has accused authorities of manipulating election results and exerting pressure on the party through various tactics.
- The letter references concerns over political suppression and rights abuses.
- The PTI emphasized that Pakistan’s economic prosperity is directly tied to upholding the rule of law and ensuring fair elections.
The dossier also recalls a meeting between PTI Founder Imran Khan and the IMF delegation in 2023, where transparent elections were reportedly stressed as essential for political and economic stability.
Furthermore, PTI leaders Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar have expressed their desire to meet the IMF delegation to discuss these concerns in detail.
