Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to reconsider their plans for protests citing the sensitive situation in Islamabad.
Speaking to the media, Naqvi expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to citizens due to heightened security measures but stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability, especially with foreign dignitaries visiting the country.
Naqvi emphasized that while every political party has the right to protest, it should not be done in a manner that disrupts national security or daily life. "You cannot shut down the entire country on someone’s wish," he stated, adding that the security of foreign guests is of utmost importance, as it reflects Pakistan's ability to ensure a safe environment for visitors.
Highlighting the commitment of law enforcement agencies, Naqvi said that the morale of the Islamabad police, including the IG, remains high, and all necessary precautions are in place.
He assured the public that no police officers were carrying firearms during the operation, except for an SP, who is not actively carrying a weapon.
Naqvi also criticized the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for supporting the protests, calling for responsible leadership.
"Let the protestors enter our territory first, and then we will take appropriate action," he warned, suggesting that the authorities are prepared to manage the situation if necessary.
