In his address at a recent reference, nominated Chief Justice Yahya Afridi stressed the importance of ensuring the distribution of powers and the supremacy of law within the nation.
He called for immediate attention to be given to the district judiciary in remote areas, stating, “My first preference would be the district judiciary of far flung areas.”
Justice Afridi acknowledged the significant role of the Chief Justice in protecting the rights of women and children during his tenure, adding, “The principle of separation of powers will be followed.”
He also reflected on the dynamics of his relationship with outgoing Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, mentioning that although they differed on several occasions while serving on the bench, “Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa always listened to my position with an open heart.”
Additionally, Justice Afridi humorously noted that Chief Justice Isa would not receive a farewell lunch at government expense, as he had accepted the invitation only after being informed he would pay for it.
In a nod to the collaborative spirit of the judiciary, Justice Afridi praised Serena Isa for her contributions, reinforcing the notion of support within the judicial community.
